#MondayMeet - Jennifer Gilmour

Monday Meet Author Q&A
This Monday we're thrilled to have Pict author Jennifer Gilmour talking to us about about her novel Clipped Wing.

What inspired you to write Clipped Wings?
Since the publication of my debut novel Isolation Junction, which is about an abusive relationship, I have been contacted by dozens of people wanting to share their experiences with me. I decided that I would do everything in my power to give these people a public voice.

So Clipped Wings is a collaboration?
Yes - it's 25 survivor stories. I open and close the book with a couple of articles and some further information on abuse. I also include the UK 24-hour free-phone National Domestic Violence helpline, which is 0808 2000 247.

How long did the process take from idea to publication?
It took 10 months - and it was unexpectedly more challenging than I thought. It really made me flex my organisational skills.

What have you learned anything during this process?
That it is ok to go away from your plan that you set and come back to it at a later date. (I wasn't initially intending to create this project.)

Now you're back to your own writing, do you have any writing routines?
I like to write in my bay window on my comfy one seater, preferably when the sun is shining through. I also write in coffee shops which I find an ability to be strict with oneself to do work as it looks like I am doing work.

We look forward to chatting again when you're ready to publish your next novel.
